Join us at the Climate Summit in Egypt! 


In November 2022, we went to COP, the UN Climate Summit, in Egypt. Politicians and climate researchers from around the globe meet at COP. They are called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
The Children’s Climate Panel is a bit like a junior version of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, only they are much bigger than us. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change draws up reports containing the facts relating to what is happening to the climate and environment. The Children’s Climate Panel report is more about the opinions of children rather than facts and analyses of the future. It was big for us to be able to meet the politicians and researchers who work on the topic. 

At the climate summit, many countries have a dedicated area where they have a stand. Others can visit the stands and learn about how the country works for the climate and environment. We always go in pairs. This ensures that one of us will always understand when we are asked important questions.

We bring the Climate Report from the Children’s Climate Panel every year. We hand it out to the other countries when we walk around. We also hand it directly to politicians we meet there. It’s great to be able to share our views with someone who can actually do something about what we wrote about in our report.

Everyone is happy to receive the report and shocked by the figures in the report. For example the fact that only 14 per cent of children and young people believe that politicians do enough to solve climate and environment issues.

We have rehearsed some phrases we repeat when we are walking around. This means we don’t have to concentrate as much, as we already know what to say. 



There are many meetings happening during the climate summit. The Children’s Climate Panel met with other organisations, members of parliament, the Norwegian delegation and representatives of the indigenous people of the Amazonas. The best meetings are those where they meet children from other countries. Here you can see a picture of us together with children from Egypt. We draw and we talk together and we try to speak different languages. 


There were more children attending this climate summit than there have been in previous years. This is a great thing! It is our future they are discussing, so children should be well represented at meetings like these. There is a separate area here for children and young people and there are various events and activities put on just for us. There were meetings, concerts, games and lots more.

One of the issues the Eco-Agents and other children work on at the climate summit is for children to be heard and involved in discussions about the climate and environment. That was also one of the outcomes from the summit. 

The UN member states now agree that it is important for children and young people to be involved when climate change is being discussed and every country will include children and young people in their country to ensure that they have the opportunity to share their views on climate and environmental issues. 




It is important for children and young people to know 
that we have opportunities to share our opinions and be heard at international meetings. If children and young people do not know this, they will not try to share their opinions. This means that the voices of children and young people are not heard at major meetings. Many countries have a youth delegate, a young person who gets to attend meetings such as these. You can, for example, send an e-mail to the delegate before the meeting to ensure that your voice is heard.

Children and young people in Norway can 
ensure that their voices are heard by writing to the Children’s Climate Panel. Several of the quotes used in the report come from pupils who have worked on The Magic Classroom and their views have now been read by Norwegian and international politicians. 

It is important for children and young people to express
 themselves on climate and environmental issues, as it is our future this affects! It is also both exciting and educational to be involved!
