How often we drive a car or travel by plane - how often we buy clothes and the kind of food we eat affect the amount of greenhouse gases we emit. The good thing is that we can all participate in activities or develop habits that help stop climate change.

The way we live affects the climate and environment.

There is a big difference in consumption and emissions between the different countries in the world. If every country in the world had the same consumption as Norway, we would need 3.4 planets. If every country in the world had the same consumption as Pakistan, we would need 0.5 planets.

Every country in the world consumes the same, which means that every country emits the same amount of greenhouse gases.

Indigenous people often live off and with nature, in much the same way as their ancestors did for thousands of years. Climate change means that nature works differently to before and this means that they need to change the way in which they live.

In many parts of the world, indigenous people are particularly exposed to climate change.

Extreme weather such as droughts and little water or too much rain affect farmers worldwide. Drought and little water or too much rain and water make it difficult to grow food in the soil. It also means that there is too little food for livestock in some areas.

Climate and environmental changes do not affect farmers.

Climate and environmental change have varying degrees of impact. Rich countries have the money and technology to identify solutions allowing them to adapt to climate and environmental change. In this way they can protect themselves against e.g. extreme weather such as flooding. Poorer countries do not have the money or solutions to adapt to climate and environmental change and are often situated in areas that are affected more by climate change.

Climate and environmental change have the least impact on rich countries.

By gaining more knowledge, more people learn about the causes of climate change and how we can live in a more environmentally friendly way. In this way, education means that more people can take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in day-to-day life and in their countries.

Education can help reduce the impact of climate change.
