Climate is the average weather measured over an extended period of time. Climate covers temperature and the amount of wind, snow and rain we experience.

Climate refers to the weather we expect to experience based on the current month or season. Weather is something we experience every single day.

The climate on Earth has always been changing. Climate change is when the average temperature changes over time. This means that the weather becomes different to normal. However, the rapid temperature rise we are currently experiencing cannot be explained through natural changes. Changes that normally occur over a period of hundreds of thousands of years now occur in the space of decades as people emit more and more natural gases such as CO2.

Never before has the world experienced climate change.

Environment refers to a place or area. The environment provides, among other things, an indication of the climate, the wildlife, nature and what it is like to live in the area. The climate and environment are closely linked and impact upon one another. 

The climate and environment are not linked in any way.

Some changes to the environment occur slowly. Rocks, for example, will change shape when waves crash against them for a prolonged period of time. These are natural changes created by nature. As these changes occur slowly, the environment is able to adapt to the changes.   Other changes may happen suddenly and can change the environment in an area in a short period of time. One example of this is forest fires.    People can also change the environment by e.g. felling forests or developing an area.

Changes to the environment naturally occur in an area over time.

According to the UN Climate Panel, the main cause of climate change is increased emissions of carbon and other greenhouse gases. Increased emissions cause temperatures on the planet to rise and it becomes warmer.

Increased population growth is the main cause of climate and environmental changes.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals constitute the global work plan. The SDGs encompass 17 goals that state what the world needs to do in order to stop climate and environmental change, as well as ensuring that everyone has adequate food, education and other things that are important when it comes to leading a good life. The Paris Agreement, the UN Nature Treaty and the UN Ocean Treaty are other plans the world has put in place to work with climate and environment issues.
